Al-Fahidi Fort

Once upon a time, there was a fort in the middle of Dubai. This is not just any fort though, but Al-Fahidi Fort. It is one of the most famous landmarks in all of Dubai and its history goes back to 1881 when Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum founded modern-day Dubai. Its story begins with his father Sheikh Saeed who had visited the area near Jumeirah Beach on many occasions before he decided to build his summer palace there. He eventually moved his entire family from Umm Qasr to this coastal location so that they could enjoy their summers by the sea like he always desired during childhood times spent at Ras al Khaimah (the principal port for pearling).

The Al-Fahidi Fort is a historic fort in Dubai. It was built by the Portuguese to defend their settlement after the British attacked them in 1819. The fort was later taken over by the Ottomans and then abandoned until it became a battleground for World War II during 1941 when Britain took control of it from Germany. In 1996, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum ordered its restoration as part of his vision to promote heritage sites throughout Dubai.

The fort now stands as an iconic landmark that tells stories about our history and culture – all at your fingertips!
