Description
Best of Skopje City Tour
Your driver will pick you up to start the Best of Skopje City Tour from your hotel or any other spot in Skopje. A spacious air-conditioned car/minivan and take you to the plateau where the Museum of Contemporary Art is situated. This gives a wonderful view of the central part of Skopje and here starts the tale of the city. Afterward, the Kale Fortress is viewed.
The following is a visit to the Mustapha Pasha Mosque, and then to the Church of the Holy Savior. Another visit is the Museum of Macedonia, which consists of three parts: an icon room, an ethnological and historical section. Instead, you continue walking through the Old Bazaar, where you can see two more Turkish Baths–Chifte Hammam and Daut Pasha Hammam, dating back to the 15th century.
The walk proceeds to the western part of the city on the right bank of the River Vardar. You can see the Holocaust Memorial Center and the Museum of Macedonian Struggle for Independence, IMRO, and the Survivors of Communism before you reach the Stone Bridge, one of Skopje’s oldest attractions. The main square of Macedonia is on the other bank of the river, with a lot of new statues and monuments.
You can walk along Macedonia’s main street, which links the square to the Old Railway Station. You should stay for a short visit to Mother Teresa’s Memorial Home, where the visit begins in front of the City Museum of Skopje, housed in the Old Railway Station, which was partially destroyed by the earthquake of 1963.
Through Mount Vodno, continue the cable car service to the Millennium Cross and down to the center of Vodno. Back in the middle of Vodno, you travel by car/minivan to the village of Gorno Nerezi, to see the church of St. Pantelejmon.
The Best of Skopje City Tour continues with a visit to the Matka Canyon, about 17 km from Skopje, and continues to walk along the bank of the Treska River, famous for its kayaking competitions. You will follow the path of the dam and the man-made lake of Matka, and you will reach the monastery of St. Andrew.
After that, you’ll take a boat trip along the Matka Canyon (8 km long) and admire the beautiful scenery, as well as a visit to the Vrelo cave. That will be the end of our Best of Skopje City Tour.
