Day trip from Tirana to Berat
Berat is known as the City of 1000 Windows. It is a treasure of Albanian history, heritage, and a monument to the country’s legacy and religious peace. Prepare to be astounded on this day trip from Tirana to Berat.
Depart for Berat at 8:30. You’ll start your day trip from Tirana to Berat with a drive to this beautiful city for about 2.5 hours. Berat is one of the oldest cities in the world and the pride of Albanian architecture.
The three main neighborhoods of the old town are Mangalemi, Gorica, and Kala, where the castle itself is situated. You’re going to start our tour of the castle area.
Kala Neighborhood
Visiting Kala requires a steep walk up the cobbled route, but those who make it to the top will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the surrounding area. You can visit the Onufri Iconography Museum, which bears the name of the prolific fresco and icon-painter Onufri, who has left a rich heritage. The museum is housed in the church of St. Mary’s Assumption. You will also see the Red Mosque, known by its isolated minaret and the Church of the Holy Trinity.
Mangalemi Neighborhood
You can tour the Mangalemi Quarter and the National Ethnographic Museum after the fortress. This museum is housed in one of the most distinctive and unique houses in the city, a vast array of traditional artifacts (more than 1000), and is one of the greatest examples of Berat’s long history and culture.
Gorica Neighborhood
The Gorica neighborhood, whose houses face those of Mangalemi, sits across the Osumi River. The arched bridge of Gorica, built in 1780, is a magnificent architectural landmark designed to connect Gorica to Mangelemi. Take some free time to walk along the bridge.
After the ride, there will be an optional lunch at the restaurant serving traditional cuisine. After that, we’ll drive back to Albania’s capital and your day trip from Tirana to Berat will come to an end.
